FAQ's

Q: What is Bows Eye?

A: A completely wireless video system for hunters & sportsmen. Bows Eye allows you to record your hunt without the problems normally associated with mounting a camcorder on a tree or having another person along on your hunt.

Q: Can I use more than one camera?

A: Yes, the Bows Eye receiver can decode a total of four cameras. This ability allows you to record your hunt not only from your bow, but also from the ground where your target(s) are. Our cameras are easily installed into/on turkey and deer decoys.

Q: How does the Bows Eye handle "bow-shock" or recoil.

A: This camera system was designed specifically for this use and "bow-shock" was carefully considered. The unit is capable of recording EVERY FRAME without that "blank-out" that plagues the systems that mount a camcorder on the bow.

Q: What kind of batteries does it use?

A: The transmitter uses 4"AAA" batteries that provide about 5 hours of continuous operation. The receiver uses 8 "AA" batteries that will run the unit for about 8 hours. Extra cameras (for decoys, etc) are normally sold with a battery pack for 4"AA" batteries and run for about 12 hours.

Q: Will it fit any bow?

A: Yes. The Bows Eye Bow Camera mounts to your bow using the stabilizer mount. If you don't use a stabilizer, a bolt is provided to secure the bracket to your riser. If you do shoot with a stabilizer, simply unscrew the stabilizer and reinstall it through one of the mounting holes in the bracket. Multiple holes are provided to accommodate for various stabilizer lengths.  Bows Eye mounts to the bow itself, not the stabilizer.

Q: Can your camera be mounted to the end of a stabilizer.

A:  No.  Bows Eye is not designed or intended to be used this way.  Mounting a video unit of any kind on the end of a stabilizer or counterweight will provide poor and unstable video quality.

Q: Will it work with my camcorder?

A: The only requirement for any recording device is this: It must be able to record from an external source. This input may be called different names by various manufacturers.  It is commonly known as an "analog input"  It may also be called a "line input".  Please consult your operators manual, the makers website or the store where you purchased your camcorder.  Bows Eye will work with any camcorder, TV or VCR that has a standard video/audio input jack.  This requirement is the same for both hard-wired cameras and the Bows Eye Wireless system.  Due to the fantastic number of camcorder models available today, Bows Eye, Inc. does not provide technical support for camcorders.

Q: Is the video image stable?

A: It only moves as much as you do.

Q: How far away can I have my camcorder/receiver?

A: Bows Eye has been tested to 500' line-of-sight with no obstacles. That range is normally reduced substantially by obstacles such as trees, bodies and terrain. We suggest that you keep the receiver within 75- 100' of you, but feel free to experiment. Nearly everyone that uses the Bows Eye system keeps the receiver and camcorder in their stand with them.

Q: Can Bows Eye see in the dark?

A: No. Bows Eye can not see in total darkness. It can function in very low light, however. As a general rule of thumb, it will work very well during legal hunting hours.

Q: Can your camera be used for things other than hunting?

A: Definitely! There are many things to use Bows Eye for. However, we strongly suggest that you not use it for anything illegal, immoral or (and this is not "politically correct") anything stupid.

Q: Can I use my Bows Eye on my deer rifle.

A: Yes. You would have to determine the best mounting method/location, though. We have tested the Bows Eye on various weapons, including the AR-15(cool), the AK-47(very cool), 12ga. & 20ga. shotguns. My brother and I had a lot of fun making test videos. One thing to consider: Because of the range of some rifles, you may be able to shoot a target much farther away than what you'll be able to see clearly on video.

Q: Is it difficult to hook up your camera system?

A: Not at all. Here's an overview: 1. Mount the cam on the bow & install the batteries 2. Connect the receiver output to your cam-corder & install the batteries for the receiver 3. Turn on your camcorder and set your cam-corder to record an external source. 4. Remove the lens cover and turn on the Bows Eye camera. 5. Power up your receiver. Even with no electronics background, this all takes 5-10 minutes.

Q: Is the Bows Eye a bow sight?

A: No. Bows-Eye is a video capture device only. It is not a sighting system or device of any type.

Q:  Can the Bows Eye be used as a stabilizer?

A:  No.  The Bows Eye is NOT a stabilizer and can not be used as a         counterweight in any form.  We take pride in the fact that Bows Eye does not weigh enough to be a counterweight.

Q: Is the camera affected by cold weather?

A: No. Bows Eye has been tested (at length) in temperatures down to -40F without a significant reduction in performance.

Q: Is the camera Weather Resistant?

A: Yes, it weather/water resistant but not water proof. You should take the same care with it as you would for your camcorder.

Q: What is the warranty for your camera?

A: Bows Eye systems are warranted for a period of six months. A full warranty list is available on our "terms and policies" page.
